On Tuesday 16th June 2015, two of our Engineering Apprentices took part in the Engineers Of Tomorrow competition at IFSEC.
IFSEC Global is the world’s biggest security exhibition and attracts visitors from all over the world. Based in the ExCel centre in London, the competition was overseen by Martin Kane of SAAIB (Security Systems & Alarms Inspection Board) and comprised of both written tasks and practical tasks.
Apprentices Gary and Aaron undertook a 90 minute assessment, reviewing a previously installed intruder alarm system, identifying the faults, re-commissioning the system and finishing with any additional security and safety measures.
Gary started with connecting the main control panel whilst Aaron installed 4 x detectors and then moved onto the fitting of a Texecom external sounder. Aaron then focused on the DualCom and once completed Gary ensured all was intact to connect the power to the main controller.
Next was to programme the system from the Texecom keypad whilst taking readings to complete test sheets. Security and safety measures were checked and finalised which then brought the competition to a close. Assessors were then called to inspect the work of each team.
Unfortunately, Gary and Aaron were pipped to the post by Kings Security and Chevron Alarms – big congratulations to them!
All in all, fantastic planning and team work from Aaron and Gary. Their attitude and commitment towards their participation in this competition has been unprecedented and we are delighted with all of their hard work.
Their skill set and confidence with installations have developed considerably and all at Clarion are proud! Well done Gary and Aaron.
